Cervical Conditions

Our staff at Atlanta Brain and Spine Care offers treatment for several cervical conditions, such as Cervical Degenerative Disc Disease, Cervical Disc Herniation, Cervical Stenosis, and Neck Strains and Sprains. Cervical degenerative disc disease occurs when the rubbery discs cushioning the bones of the upper spine dry out and become brittle, which causes the joints of the neck to become stiff and painful. Cervical disc herniation happens when the tough outer band of the discs cracks and allows a gooey gel-like substance to ooze from the middle of the disc, which presses against nerve roots or the spinal cord to cause pain. Cervical stenosis is the narrowing of the interior of the hollow spinal canal at the upper part of the spine, which causes pressure to the spinal cord and resulting in neck pain. Neck strains and sprains are common but painful soft tissue injuries to the muscles, tendons and ligaments that support the head.

Thoracic Conditions

Our Atlanta spine specialists can concisely diagnose and treat thoracic conditions, such as Scheuermann’s Kyphosis, Adult Degenerative Scoliosis, Idiopathic Scoliosis, and Compression Fractures. Scheuermann’s Kyphosis is a deformity of the spine in which the normal curve of the upper spine is increased, resulting in a hunched appearance. Adult degenerative scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine in adult patients, while adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is abnormal curvature of the spine in patients ages 10 to maturity. Compression fractures occur when bones of the spine become so weak and brittle that they break down in height.

Lower Back Conditions

Our neurosurgeons in Atlanta provide patients with relief from pain resulting from lower back conditions, such as Lumbar Degenerative Disc Disease, Lumbar Disc Herniation, Lumbar Stenosis, Lower Back Strains and Sprains, Spondylolisthesis, and Isthmic Spondylolisthesis. Lumbar degenerative disc disease (LDDD) occurs when the discs cushioning the bones of the lower spine dry out, lose strength and resiliency, and break down. Lumbar disc herniation happens when the rubbery outer shell ruptures to allow its contents to press against nerves or the spinal cord. Lumbar stenosis is a condition where the interior of the spinal column narrows to pinch nerves and press against the spinal cord. Injury to the soft tissues of the lower back may result in low back strains and sprains. Degenerative spondylolisthesis occurs when changes in the lower spine allow one bone of the spinal column to slip in front of another. Isthmic spondylolisthesis is a condition where a tiny defect or fracture causes one spine bone to slip in front of another.

Spinal Tumors

Spinal tumors are groups of cells that grow uncontrollably in the spine. Diagnostic testing, lab tests, and imaging studies assist our doctors in detecting, classifying, and treating primary benign and primary malignant spinal tumors with non-surgical or minimally invasive treatment options. In addition, our team is committed to providing specialized care and recovery.

Spinal Education

Atlanta Brain and Spine Care is devoted to educating our patients and their families, and our comprehensive Spinal Education animations and educational resources illustrate spinal conditions, surgical and non-surgical procedures.
