David M. Benglis, M.D.

David M. Benglis, Jr., M.D. is a Board Certified Neurosurgeon practicing at Atlanta Brain and Spine Care. He completed a complex spine and minimally invasive fellowship at the University of Miami. He is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of both surgical and non-surgical spinal disorders. Additionally, Dr. Benglis has recently authored various book chapters and journal articles on these specific topics. Dr. Benglis, believes that patient education, conservative approaches to treatment, and the patient-physician relationship are important.

Dr. Benglis treats a wide range of spinal disorders including:

  • Cervical / lumbar / thoracic disc disease / herniations and stenosis
  • Spondylolisthesis cervical / lumbar / thoracic
  • Spinal trauma
  • Spine tumors

He utilizes modern cutting-edge techniques (O-arm CT navigation, disc replacement, minimally invasive screws) to ensure his patient’s fast return to function following surgery.

Dr. Benglis completed his undergraduate training with high honors at the University of Texas at Austin. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Microbiology and attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Dr. Benglis graduated with honors through the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) society.

From 2007-2009 Dr. Benglis completed a two-year non-ACGME advanced subspecialty fellowship in spinal neurosurgery. This was accomplished under the guidance of his spine mentors, now chairman of neurosurgery Dr. Alan Levi, M.D., Phd., Dr. Michael Y. Wang, M.D., Dr. Steve Vanni, D.O., and chairman emeritus Dr. Barth Green M.D. who directed one of the largest spinal cord injury research centers in the country, the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.  Dr. Benglis graduated from his neurosurgical residency at the University of Miami in 2011.

Dr. Benglis performs surgeries at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the AANS-CNS Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine. Dr. Benglis holds positions on the Piedmont Hospital Credentialing committee.

Dr. David Benglis was born and raised in southwestern Louisiana. In his free time he enjoys travelling, collecting wine, and outdoor activities.
